'In early 2017 we decided that it would be possible to build a retirement bungalow in our garden. The plot was quite small but it did have road access and services. We had sketch designs for the property but needed an architect. Adrian Smith at Studio Smith Architects was recommended by a friend who had been pleased with his services. Adrian advised us that for our project we should apply for Pre Planning with our local council and following many meetings he set about producing plans which reflected our special requirements. He worked closely with us and the planning officer to come up with a design that was modern, eco-friendly and in line with the South Worcestershire Development Plan. Adrian was successful in obtaining full planning permission for our bungalow based on this designs and having completed the working drawings he put the request to tender out to several local builders. This first process took approximately five months. Having appointed a builder in November 2017, the bungalow was completed to a very high specification within six months. The experienced builder said that he had never before worked with an architect that had given such detailed and precise working drawings. Working with a talented professional like Adrian made the whole design and build a very pleasant, exciting and easy experience.
